Memories
From Grandchildren

Lorelei
I rememberhow good it felt to sit with Gramma out on the front porch swing, listening to the birds, watching the train, and getting my back scratched.

Anna
I remember gramma teaching me how to ride my bike with training wheels. She did it at the old High School, (where the Middle School is now).

Maureen
We used to go to Gramma's for Vacation Bible School in the summer. I remember one year we toured the historic sites and one stop was her house. She served trail mix. I also remember the Easter Egg Hunts. I still have one of the pictures.

Elizabeth
I love Gramma Anne.

Jessi
I’ve always had the best 40’s project in the class, for a few years running. Thanks for all the help, Gramma.

Christy
When we were little, Gramma’s box full of string could always provide hours of fun and an endless supply of little yarn dolls.

Emily
I remember when Gramma came with us to Arizona and gave us little pouches with crayons and paper. I still have one that is red and yellow.

Jonathan
She’s nice. She lets me spend the night.

Mark
Homemade bubbles at Gramma’s house were so much fun! But we always had to be warned not to drink through the straw!

Shaun
Gramma always kisses me- she likes me a lot. Gramma always gives me Beanie Babies- I have a collection of them. I like to eat lots of candy at Gramma's. I like to visit Gramma's house. I want to stay 100 days.

Michael
I liked watching trains with Gramma in her front yard when I was little. I really like Gramma holding me. Gramma has a funny hanggy-down part on her arm. She lets me wiggle it. I like to swim at Gramma's and see all my cousins.

In the Commercial Appeal:

"We stood n the front yard and watched the Southern Railways work-train go by: the thundering engine, three cars and a bright-red caboose. Just the right size train for an almost-3-year-old girl to enjoy. The whistle blew at the crossing and the engineer waved at us.

Lorelei beamed. "He waved at the little girl," she said, her face radiant. "Gramma, will he wave at a little boy, too?"

If he remembers his yesterdays as a little boy, he will.

Carousel

by Anne Babin

The sparkle in her eyes was wonderful to see;
Her horse went up when mine went down,
And she shouted out with glee:
"We’re riding the merry-go-round, Gramma,
You and me."
Her long hair flying in the wind,
Our steeds pranced round the ring.
The joy that shone in her bright young face
Was enough to make me sing.
Martial music filled the air — colored lights so fine,
"We’re riding the merry-go-round, Gramma,
You and me."
Now slowing, stopping…."Don’t help me…."
So old for five, yet still a child,
Delighting in the fun.
"We rode horses together, Gramma,
Didn’t we?"
